Dr. Smith received his dental degree from NYU College of Dentistry. After a general practice residency at Booth Memorial Medical Center, he earned a specialty certificate in prosthodontics also from NYUCD. He later returned to NYUCD for his Fellowship in Implant Surgery. He is a former Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at NYUCD, the former director of the Periodontal- Prosthetics program at NY Hospital Queens, and a former Associate Clinical Professor at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Smith continues to serve as a visiting lecturer at both Columbia University College of Dental Medicine for the departments of postgraduate Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry and at NYUCD in the International continuing education department. He has lectured nationally and internationally, and has had numerous articles published in the dental literature.
